Kei Komatsuyama × UPSEA: The next generation of surfers

Kei Komatsuyama, a top partner of UPSEA, is attracting attention as a next-generation star in the Japanese surf scene. His passion and ability have already been proven in competitions both at home and abroad, and many fans and industry insiders have high expectations for his performance.

A talented athlete from Amakusa, Kumamoto Prefecture

Komatsuyama Ken is from Amakusa, Kumamoto Prefecture. He showed his talent from an early age by competing in elite classes in SUP (stand up paddle) races from the fifth grade of elementary school, traveling around the country. In 2014, at just 12 years old, he passed the preliminaries of the All Japan Championships and participated in and completed the elite class (10km). The following year, in 2015, he won the 3km class at the Japan Cup, one of the largest SUP competitions in Japan, and won the same class again in 2016.

Environmental awareness and involvement with UPSEA

Through surfing and SUP, Komatsuyama has also developed a strong interest in environmental issues. In particular, he has thought deeply about the problems of marine plastic waste and microplastics, and is taking action.
